Mark Thompson, President and CEO
Mr. Thompson came to Advantage General Insurance with a distinguished background. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants; and has fourteen years of progressive experience in Public Accounting, Investment Banking, Finance, Operations and General Business Management in prominent businesses including KPMG, World Gaming and Cable & Wireless in Canada and the Caribbean.
Dave Morrison, Vice President, Finance
Dave Howard Morrison joined the Advantage General Team as Vice President Finance in September , 2008.
In this capacity, Dave is responsible for all financial and accounting operations and works closely with the senior management team, management committees to develop and implement strategic financial interventions aligned to the business strategy.
Dave has extensive accounting experience, acumen in financial planning and a demonstrated grasp of financial affairs having held senior positions with diverse companies such a Mavis Bank Coffee Factory Limited, Cable & Wireless West Indies Limited, CORFIN Consultants Limited, and Price WaterhouseCoopers Jamaica.
His qualifications include FCA and FCCA designations, among others. His professional affiliations include membership on the Board of Directors of Dolphin Cove Limited.
Andre Latty, Vice President, Human Resources and Training
Mr. Latty joined Advantage General in the position of Vice President of Human Resources and Training in May 2007. He brings a total of 20 years diverse local and international HR experience having held senior positions such as HR Manager in Jamaica and Trinidad, HR Generalist, HR Development Manager and HR Consulting Analyst. His qualifications include a B.Sc. degree in Public Administration, a Masters degree in Human Resources Development and professional certificates in Manpower Planning and Development, and Business & Industrial Psychology from the University of the West Indies, Mona campus.
Ruth Cummings, Vice President - Channel Management
Ruth Cummings has had an enviable career with over 20 years in the insurance industry functioning at various levels of the operations and marketing departments. Having recently been promoted to the position of VP Channel Management, Mrs. Cummings has been charged with the mandate of relationship management, business development and branch network supporting.
Ruth holds a EMBA and ACII and is the award holder for the Peer Award for Magazine Ad of the Year (2003).
Sophia Smith, Claims Manager
Sophia Smith launched her career in the general insurance industry at Globe Insurance Company where she spent 12 years. Her most recent position prior to leaving was Assistant Claims Manager for all categories of insurance.
She holds an Associate Degree in Hospitality Management and a Diploma in Insurance Studies and she is at an advanced stage of completing the CII certification.
Sophia is responsible for strategic management of the claims portfolio to achieve our desired objective of clearing the current backlog and ensuring prompt and effective processing of current claims in a manner which demonstrates our motto “our reliability is your peace of mind” and to positively impact the operating results of the Organization.
Harold Wong, Underwriting Manager
Harold brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to the position having over 30 years of functional and regulatory experience in the industry. He has held senior positions at Scotia Jamaica General Insurance Brokers, Crawford Insurance Brokers and was also the Superintendent of Insurance in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Harold’s most recent posting was that of Consultant at Caribbean Assurance Brokers Limited.
He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies with a B.Sc. in Economics. In addition, he holds the prestigious FCII designation.
Stephanie Neita, Compliance Manager and Company Secretary
Stephanie joined Advantage General in October 1999, formerly United General Insurance Company in the capacity of Company Secretary. She brought with her years of experience having worked at Companies such as Caribbean Cement Company, Victoria Mutual Investment Limited and Life of Jamaica (LOJ), now referred to as Sagicor.
Stephanie is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University where she holds a Bachelors degree in Professional Management (BSc) and a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA). She also has a Certified Professional Secretarial designation (CPS).
Her career path has led her in the field of public relations, secretarial and administration, all of which positioned her to bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge to the position. Stephanie is meticulous in the execution of her job, and has an eye for details
Roland Crawford, IT Manager
After initially launching his career in the information technology in the field of education, Roland soon transitioned to the Students Loan Bureau where he assumed the role of Systems Administrator/Web Developer.
From there he moved on to the Multinational Fujitsu Transaction Solutions as a Systems Engineer/Network Engineer. His next move was to the National Commercial Bank Group where he was appointed Senior Systems Engineer. He joined our team at Advantage General in May 2006 as Manager of Network and Infrastructure and was promoted to the position of Senior IT Manager in 2008.
Roland is a graduate of New York University from which he holds a BSc degree in Computer Science. In addition, he has successfully completed several career related development programmes including Certificates in Dell Certified Systems engineer, Dell Windows Server Administrator and Dell Linux.
Odia S. Reid, General Counsel
Odia S. Reid joined the management team in the capacity of General Counsel on March 9, 2009.
In this role she provides a wide range of internal legal and regulatory services with primary focus on consultative legal advice, negotiation of claims settlement, management of litigation and has managerial oversight for the Claims Legal Unit.
Ms Reid graduated from the University of Cambridge, Downing College with a LL.M (Hons) Master of Laws degree in International and Commercial Law , The University of the West Indies with a LL.B (Hons) and the Norman Manley Law School with a Certificate of Legal Education.
While pursuing those studies she was the recipient of a number of prestigious awards including, The Chris Blackwell Q.C Prize for Trade Union Law 1996, UWI, and a number of prizes at the Norman Manley Law School including the Prize for Most Outstanding Student 1996 - 1997 and the Prize for Trial Advocacy.
She has held key positions locally and regionally, including Commercial Litigation Associate at Myers Fletcher and Gordon; Senior Civil/International Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General, British Virgin Islands; Corporate/Commercial Associate & Compliance Officer at Farara Kerins BVI; and Civil/International Counsel with the Cayman Islands Government Legal Department.
Major Kenneth Neil, Property, Procurement and Services Manager
A marine engineer by training, Major Neil gained valuable experience during his 35-year stint in the army. He has received extensive training at the Royal Navy Engineering College, Plymouth England and holds Professional Certificates in mechanics and technology from the City and Guilds and the Business and Technical Education Council England.
Major Neil also has a National Diploma in Marine Engineering and a HigherNational Certificate in Engineering from the Business and Technician Education Council (BTEC). He was awarded a Medal for meritorious service from the Government of Jamaica.
Major Neil joined Advantage General Insurance in September 2006 as Property Manager, making what seems to be a major switch from military life to that of a civilian.
