Advantage General Insurance Company Limited has a rich history in the general insurance industry. The company was established in 1964 and following a change of ownership, became known as United General Insurance Company Limited in 1986.

In April 2006, AIC Ltd. acquired majority ownership (80%) of the organisation, a continuing demonstration of the Chairman’s, Mr. Michael Lee-Chin’s, unquestionable passion for and commitment to Jamaica.  In January 2007, the company's name was changed to Advantage General Insurance Company Limited.
